This October, escape to Paris for a five-night baking retreat and learn how to bake the quintessential breads of France, including croissants, baguettes, and brioche, in three hands-on baking classes at La Cuisine Paris. You’ll also visit bakeries and meet food artisans during two walking tours, one focused on the breads of France and the other on the gourmet stores surrounding Les Halles. Other retreat activities include a welcome wine reception at the fabulous new five-star Le Grand Mazarin hotel, where we’ll stay in Le Marais neighborhood; an apéro in conversation with Jane Bertch, owner of La Cuisine Paris and author of The French Ingredient; a private Champagne river cruise on the Seine as the sun sets and the city’s lights begin to sparkle; a group dinner at one of editor-in-chief Brian Hart Hoffman’s favorite restaurants; and a shopping excursion at E. You are required to pay your deposit and sign a travel waiver and acknowledgement of cancellation policy via DocuSign within 48 hours of receiving a confirmation email. Each person traveling in your reservation must sign this document. Reservations will be taken in the order in which we receive emails.

Arrive in Paris on your own and get settled into the fabulous new Le Grand Mazarin hotel. We’ll have an evening wine reception so you can meet our team and your fellow bakers. Dinner will be on your own with our list of top restaurants to try while you’re in Paris.

Monday, October 21, 2024

A walking bakery tour is the best way we know how to learn about the breads of Paris. This walking bakery tour will highlight brioche, croissant, and baguette. After we taste our way through the Le Marais neighborhood, we’ll head to La Cuisine Paris for an afternoon baking class.

Tuesday, October 22, 2024

The morning will be on your own to enjoy Paris before an afternoon baking class at La Cuisine Paris. After class, we’ll head to one of our favorite spots in the neighborhood for a very special apéro.

Wednesday, October 23, 2024

In the morning, we’ll enjoy a walking gourmet tour of one of the most historic food neighborhoods in Paris, Les Halles. After we eat our way through specialty food shops and meet artisans, we’ll head to E. Dehillerin and G. Detou for an afternoon of shopping. If you’re looking to start a copper collection or add to yours, E. Dehillerin, open since 1820, is the place.

A morning baking class will be held at La Cuisine before an evening to remember. We’ll sip Champagne as we cruise along the Seine in a private boat before heading to one of editor-in-chief Brian Hart Hoffman’s favorite spots for dinner.

Accommodations in Paris

We’ll stay at the fabulous new five-star hotel, Le Grand Mazarin, in the heart of the Le Marais neighborhood and a quick walk to La Cuisine Paris, where we’ll have our baking classes.

Due to the uniqueness and European charm of this hotel, double-occupancy rooms do not have two beds. Two sets of linens for one bed can be provided upon request.

Booking

Half of the retreat cost (50%) is due within 48 hours along with a signed travel waiver and cancellation policy acknowledgment to secure your reservation. The second half of the retreat cost (50%) is due May 1, 2024. We accept payment by American Express, Visa, Mastercard, PayPal, and Amazon Pay. Trip prices are in US dollars.

Travel to and from Paris

Guests are responsible for getting themselves to Paris and to Le Grand Mazarin hotel on Sunday, October 20, when the retreat commences. Guests will be responsible for getting themselves from Le Grand Mazarin to the airport or their next destination on Friday, October 25.

Costs

The price of the trip includes hotel accommodations, all baking classes, two food tours, breakfast daily, welcome wine reception, group apéro, river cruise, and group dinner.

Single-occupancy, double-occupancy, and baking participant plus non-baking guest rates are available.

Your credit card will be charged by Hoffman Media, the parent company of Bake from Scratch.

Cancellation

Since the trip is nonrefundable, we suggest buying trip insurance.

If you don’t purchase travel insurance, you agree to indemnify us against any charges that might otherwise be covered by your insurance. You further agree that we are not responsible for any costs of cancellation or costs related to travel interruptions or COVID-19. Due to COVID-19, there may be limitations relating to activities. Certain services and amenities may be reduced or unavailable as a result of changing circumstances. Please know that we are working closely with our partners to plan and execute a safe baking retreat for our guests, but there is an inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 when traveling. By booking this baking retreat, you acknowledge and assume these risks associated with travel. 

We reserve the right to cancel this retreat if fewer than 16 participants have signed up by August 1, 2024. We will send an email confirmation to all participants when this number has been met. If Bake from Scratch initiates the cancellation, we will refund all payments.

Can I extend my stay at the hotel?

If I book a double-occupancy package, will the hotel room have two beds?

Due to the uniqueness and European charm of the hotels, double-occupancy rooms do not have two beds. Two sets of linens for one bed can be provided upon request. 

Can I upgrade to a suite?

Is breakfast included?

Daily breakfast is included at the hotel.

Are children able to attend this retreat?

All participants must be 18 years old or older to attend this baking retreat.

What should I plan to wear during baking classes?

Smart casual clothing and closed-toe shoes. Long hair should be pulled back. Aprons will be provided.

Are the baking classes hands-on?

Yes, all baking classes will be hands-on.

Is this retreat better suited for professionals or home bakers?

Our retreats are geared for passionate home bakers, but professionals are always welcome.

Will we have any free time?

You will have some free time in Paris to explore, shop, sip, and eat. We’ll equip you with a list of our favorite places.

I want to bring my travel companion, but they don’t want to participate in the baking classes. What can they do?

We offer a baking participant plus non-baking guest package for this very reason! This package allows you to bake and participate in all retreat activities while your travel companion explores Paris on their own. As a part of this package, hotel accommodations, daily breakfast, river cruise, welcome wine reception, group dinner, and group apéro are included for your non-baking companion.
