Sweden Baking Retreat 2025

September 10–17, 2025

Single: $8,750 (1 baker/1 hotel room)

Double: $8,000 each (2 bakers in 1 shared hotel room)

Baking participant plus non-baking guest: $10,500 (1 baker/1 non-baking guest/1 hotel room)

From semlor to kannelbular, princess cake, and regional flatbreads, this retreat will immerse bakers in the traditions of Swedish baking. Beginning in Stockholm for four nights, bakers will experience the city’s best bakeries, a trip to Vaxholms Bed & Breakfast for a kanelbullar class, and a day of baking at AVEQIA Stockholm cooking school with hands-on use of Ankarsrum mixers, proudly made in Sweden and loved by bakers around the world. From Stockholm, we’ll take a short flight as a group to Skellfteå in northern Sweden, just south of the Arctic Circle, to meet up with cookbook author and pastry chef Fanny Zanotti for a day of baking over a wood fire in an actual baker’s cottage. Fingers crossed, we might even see the northern lights.

This luxury retreat is limited to 20 bakers and features unique, one-of-a-kind experiences for bakers that love to learn, travel, and connect with other like-minded people.

Each registered baking attendee will receive a one-year subscription to Bake from Scratch. If you’re already a subscriber, you have the option of extending your subscription or gifting it to
someone who loves baking.

Wednesday, September 10, 2025

Arrive on your own in Stockholm, Sweden, and get settled into your junior suite at the Grand Hôtel. An early evening welcome reception will be held at the hotel so you can meet our team and your fellow bakers. The evening is on your own to rest or start exploring Stockholm.

Thursday, September 11, 2025

Wake up refreshed and enjoy breakfast at your leisure. We’ll divide into groups for the day’s activities. One group will visit the best bakeries in Stockholm on a delicious tour led by local baker, author, and cookie shop owner Kaja Hengstenberg. The other group will travel to the picturesque Vaxholms Bed & Breakfast for a kanelbullar class. Vaxholm is a small village located in Stockholm’s archipelago, just outside the city.

Friday, September 12, 2025

After enjoying breakfast at the hotel, the groups will switch to do the activity they didn’t participate in the day before. The afternoon and evening will be on your own to explore Stockholm.

Saturday, September 13, 2025

After enjoying breakfast at the hotel, we’ll head to AVEQIA Stockholm cooking school. Not only will you learn how to make semlor and princess cake but you will get hands-on instruction on how to use an Ankarsrum mixer as well. The afternoon and evening will be on your own to explore Stockholm.

Sunday, September 14, 2025

After breakfast at the hotel, we will head to Stockholm Arlanda Airport to take an hour-long, nonstop flight to Skellfteå in northern Sweden. After arriving at Skellefteå Airport on SAS
airlines, we will check into The Wood Hotel by Elite. We’ll enjoy a group dinner at the fabulous Bryggargatan Restaurant & Bar, where baker and Bake from Scratch friend Fanny Zanotti is pastry chef.

Monday, September 15, 2025

After enjoying breakfast at the hotel, we will divide into two groups of 10 bakers for the day’s activities. One group will make flatbreads that originate from northern Sweden and practice different shaping techniques for Swedish buns with Fanny Zanotti at a cozy baker’s cottage. Yes, you read that correctly! Baker’s cottages are a tradition in this area of Sweden. The other group will enjoy a baking demonstration and the spa at The Wood Hotel by Elite. Each baker will receive one spa treatment (facial or massage) at Vana Spa, located on the 20th floor of the hotel. The evening is on your own.

Tuesday, September 16, 2025

After enjoying breakfast at the hotel, the groups will switch to do the activity they didn’t participate in the day before. In the evening, you can relax or enjoy Skellfteå on your own.

Wednesday, September 17, 2025

We will return to Stockholm Arlanda Airport in the afternoon. This retreat will end at the airport, so you can continue your travels. (We do not recommend flying back to the US until the following day.) If you would like to extend your stay in Stockholm at the Grand Hôtel, reach out to our team for availability.

Have a question about this baking retreat? Email events@bakefromscratch.com.

What airport do I fly into to begin the retreat in Stockholm?

There are daily US flights that arrive at Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN) as well as many that connect through other European hubs. Stockholm Arlanda Airport is located about 40 minutes from the hotel.

Can I extend my stay at the hotels?

If you’d like to inquire about additional nights in Stockholm or extend your stay in Skellefteå, email events@bakefromscratch.com. Some guests like to book a room for the night before their arrival, so it is ready after all-night flights from the US. We can make requests for early check-ins but cannot guarantee your room will be ready before the official hotel check-in time.

Is breakfast included?

Daily breakfast is included.

Are children able to attend this retreat?

All participants must be 18 years old or older to attend this baking retreat.

What should I plan to wear during baking classes and on the retreat?

For baking classes, activities, and travel, the dress is smart casual. Tennis shoes are recommended for standing in baking classes and walking on cobblestone streets. In Sweden and around Europe, athletic wear is not frequently worn.

Are the baking classes hands-on?

Yes, all baking classes are hands-on.

If I book a double-occupancy package, will the hotel room have two beds?

Due to the uniqueness and European charm of the hotels, double-occupancy rooms do not have two beds. If you are traveling with a friend or adult child, you can request two sets of linens on one bed.

Is this retreat better suited for professionals or home bakers?

Our retreats are geared toward passionate home bakers, but professionals are always welcome. Whether you’re a beginning baker or someone who’s been baking for years, our baking classes and culinary experiences offer immersion into local baking cultures, so there’s always something everyone can learn.

Will we have any free time?

You will have some free time in Stockholm and Skellefteå to explore on your own. We will equip you with our list of favorite bakeries, restaurants, shops, and activities.

I want to bring my travel companion, but they don’t want to participate in the baking classes. What can they do?

We offer a baking participant plus non-baking guest package for this very reason! This package allows you to bake and participate in all retreat activities while your travel companion explores on their own. As a part of this package, hotel accommodations, daily breakfast, welcome reception, group dinner, and flight between Stockholm and Skellefteå is included for your non-baking companion.
