Browned Butter Frosting
 
Makes 5 cups
Ingredients
  • 2 cups (454 grams) unsalted butter
  • 5 cups (600 grams) confectioners’ sugar
  • ¼ cup (60 grams) whole milk, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon (4 grams) vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
Instructions
  1. In a medium saucepan, cook butter over medium heat until butter turns a medium-brown color and has a nutty aroma, about 10 minutes. Remove from heat, and let cool completely.
  2. In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, beat browned butter at medium-high speed until fluffy, about 2 minutes. Gradually add confectioners’ sugar, milk, vanilla, and salt; beat until well combined, about 2 minutes more. Store frosting in airtight container, and refrigerate for up to 1 week.
